AMS tuning guide & info

ALRIGHT, you now have your pipes and AMS, one of the best performance packages availabe, here is a few install tips and standard tuning guide to get the most out of it. !
First of all....OUR AMS WORKS PERFECT WITH ANY AIR INTAKE SYSTEM, CAMS OR ANY OTHER HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE MODS! Despite the claims of one manufacturer, Our AMS is the same basic GEN III module as the Wiseco, Ness Big shot and the Lloydz Gen III, the only difference is, we use a richer fuel baseline to work with our High Performance exhaust....
Tuning our AMS has the same basic adjustments as a Carb. Mode 1 handles the low RPM throttle, which would be the pilot jet on a carb
Mode 2 handles the accel pump
Mode 3, The main jet fuel
Modes 4 & 5, or 5 & 6 depending on the AMS unit you have handles the mid range fuel.
So our AMS provides the fuel just like a Carb.
1. Please read the instructions, sounds simple but, we get calls all the time wanting us to read the instructions over the phone, like a bedtime story..."once upon a time" no, no & no!, we are not gong to read the instructions over the phone!
2. The injectors on some models swivel enough to get the AMS wiring clip on easily, most models are tight, but the harness will fit...also, on some injectors there is a centering detent, make sure to center the injector once its hooked up properly.
3. On 07 & earlier Victory's, the AMS plugs into the injector only on the rear cylinder, the front ties into the wiring harness on top of or next to the airbox,...please refer to tip #1.
4. On the Indian Scout, make sure the AMS is located right behind the fuse box. See picture. Also the 02 sensor block off connectors MUST be used, no exceptions!

5. Small zip ties are included with our AMS, please use them to keep the AMS wires away from the throttle linkage...VERY IMPORTANT!
6. We install the AMS unit under the seat on nearly all bikes except.. on the Victory bagger's, we install the AMS right behind the right side cover...
7. Our AMS has been designed to work with OR without the 02 sensors, we prefer to use our flush caps instead of the 02 sensors, as the 02 sensors actually reduce flow and create a hot spot around the exhaust pipe and 02 sensor. SST flush caps can be ordered from us direct. If you decide to use our flush caps all you need to do, is screw them in in place of the sensor and disconnect the 02 wire from the harness...THIS WILL NOT EFFECT OR CAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON (Victory), AND WILL NOT HARM THE WIRING OR THE ENGINE....some of our bikes have 15K miles using the flush caps!
8. To remove the harness from the injector: raise the red clip, then push in on the release tab right under the red clip, be careful to not break the harness.
NOW LETS START TUNING THE AMS:
NOTE: Our basic Settings are for engines that are mechanically sound. Leaking valves & seats, pistons & rings that are not sealing will require different settings. Also cam changes, air intake systems, headwork, Hi compression pistons, big bore kits will also require fine tuning, as will altitude. We recommend following the break in procedure with the bike totally stock...then once its broken in, add the high performance pipes & module.
1. Turn on the ignition (but do not start the bike yet), the AMS should have the 2 outer lights flashig...If not go back and make sure all connections are properly hooked up and the AMS is hooked up to the ground (negative post) on the battery, per instructions. Once you are sure that all is hooked up correctly and your AMS has the flashing lights you can now proceed to Step #2
2. Start the engine, as soon as its running look at the AMS, the LED lights should be scrolling back & forth for approx 5 or so seconds, then they should stop and there should be a green light on 1-2 & maybe 3 during warm up, if the LEDs do not scroll back & forth, then there is a hookup problem...If all is hooked up properly let your bike warm up for a minute or so to get the idle down.
3. Refer to our Tuning guide that we send out with the AMS, our guide gives the basic settings that work with the exhaust that was purchased, (Our guide will be in the AMS box)....OUR GUIDE IS FOR ENGINES WITHOUT REMAPS!. FAILURE TO SET THE AMS TO OUR GUIDE WILL CAUSE A LEAN CONDITION! lets start with those numbers. To set the AMS push the mode button, then let go, now push the + or - button to set, repeat this for all the modes...if you dink around for more than 4 seconds on any one mode, the AMS will return to run mode.
4. Our Tuning guide numbers are for SEA LEVEL, altitude, temp & humidity can and will effect tuning. please read the instructions to find out what each mode does, this will give you an idea where fine tuning needs to be done. - button = less fuel, + button = more fuel.
5. Take your bike out for a short ride, then when the pipes are still warm, torque the exhaust nuts again, this will help seat the pipes and exhaust gaskets for a superior seal. While your at it, double check all mounting bolts.
6. Please use our Tuning guide on this page or the supplemental AMS guide in your AMS box.....set to our numbers to start with. When fine tuning is needed, this is how we do it....
Let the bike warm up and have the AMS reading for adjustments, with the bike in neutral, set modes 1 & 2 to the fastest roll on throttle response. Once this is done then take your bike out and tune mode 3 for the best top end power....This works very well, with proper tuning and mode 4 set to the lowest number, .5,(This low # pertains ONLY to 08 up Victory's & 2011 up Harley AMS modules!), then back firing will be at a minimum...Here is one thing to keep in mind. The more power your bike has the finer the tuning needs to be, Our pipes put way out more power than most exhaust and WAY more than anything Victory, Harley, or Indian sells, you don't see drag racers or any high performance rider using a stage I remap or exhaust!...OH Yeah, stay away from exhaust that claim a remap or added fuel is not needed, these are NOT performance pipes and add NO power whatsoever, unless of course you want to throw money away.
MORE POWER = MORE FUEL REQUIRED Our AMS is super easy to tune, so don't be afraid to change the numbers, we encourage the riders to do fine tune their bike for the VERY best in performance!
NOW ON TO SOME BASIC AMS NUMBERS...PLEASE NOTE: THESE NUMBERS ARE FOR SEA LEVEL, FINE TUNING FOR YOUR AREA MIGHT BE NEEDED. - BUTTON = LESS FUEL, + BUTTON = MORE FUEL..
Victory 106" BAGGER with our Tru-Duels
Mode 1, set to 4
Mode 2, set to 4.5
Mode 3, set to 4.5
Mode 4, set to 0.5 this mode helps control backfiring, the lower the number the less backfiring
Mode 5, set to 4.5
Mode 6, set to 5
These numbers will give fantastic throttle response & power with 40+mph on the hwy. stock the bike was a real slug above 3000rpms, now the bike easily outruns most most V twins and the has power to pass long chains of vehicles even uphill.
08 up Ripper & Zoomie Settings (sea level):
Mode 1, set to 5
Mode 2, set to 5
Mode 3, set to 5.5
Mode 4, set to 0.5, this mode controls backfiring, the lower number helps to reduce backfiring
Mode 5, set to 5
Mode 6, set to 5
These setting will give instant throttle response, with loads of power, until you are used to the power, be careful as wheelspin in the first 3 gears can & will throw the bike sideways. Also burn outs can be done that are well over over 100' long....HOLD ON TIGHT!
03-07 ZOOMIES & RIPPER'S
Mode 1, set to 5
Mode 2, set to 5
Mode 3, set to 5.5
Mode 4, set to 5
Mode 5, set to 4.5
These setting will give instant throttle response, with loads of power, until you are used to the power, be careful as wheelspin in the first 3 gears can & will throw the bike sideways, even on the 92" engine. Also burn outs can be done that are well over over 100' long....HOLD ON TIGHT!
Harley-Davidson 103" engines with our War-Header, Track-Tuned header & Mayhem with high performance intake.
Mode 1, set to 5
Mode 2, set to 4.5
Mode 3, set to 4.5
Mode 4, set to 0.5. This mode on the 103" controls backfiring, the lower the setting the less backfiring
Mode 5, set to 4.5
Mode 6, set to 5
Mode 1, set to 4
Mode, 2 set to 4
Mode 3, set to 4.5
Modes 4,5 & 6, standard settings
